Paddle Boarding in North Devon
A very warm welcome to the online home of Tarka SUP, the soulful SUP company.
We're on a mission to encourage as many people as we can to help gain the significant mental and physical well-being benefits of Stand Up Paddle Boarding in a fun, safe and rewarding way.
We want to help people to get onto the water safely and with confidence through effective tuition, managed hire, tours, and the sale of high-quality, great value Paddle Boards and accessories from brands you can trust

We have sadly been made homeless this year, as such we are now working on a fully 'on demand basis' so please get in touch via Facebook, phone or email to arrange your paddle board or Kayak Hire, Tuition tour or Team event.
We typically operate opposite the sheltered estuary beach in Instow, North Devon, and ideally placed to help people of all ages, sizes and experience to learn and improve skills in a safe, fun a rewarding way.
So whether you're an experienced Paddler looking to improve skills, or a complete newbie to the awesome world of Paddle Boarding, we're here to support you.
We have invested in quality equipment, we're fully insured, and our experienced, qualified instructors are here to offer friendly expert advice and support.

Barrie Collins

Passionate self taught paddle boarder, having learnt the hard way on a cheap board around 6 years ago, which used to involve more diving than Tom Daley. Thankfully having mastered the art and having a better quality board, Barrie stays a lot dryer these days and is passionate about getting people on the water safely and having fun!
Tim Newton
Founder
Director Operations
Highly Experienced water sports coach, Qualified Instructor and resident Tom Cruise lookalike (if you ordered from the Wish website) Tim loves getting wet and showing off his range of Paddle Strokes and dad dance moves.
Tim has retained a 100% record of getting people standing and confident within an hour of coaching (He very rarely mentions it ;>)

(as he has a tow bar) Head of Refreshments, Bad Jokes and knot tying. A relatively recent convert to Paddle Boarding, but now a fully fledged fellow SUP addict and all round great guy, so he keeps telling us.

Thankfully adding some well needed Glamour to the team as well as being our resident England Volley Ball Player. Freya is a competent Paddle Boarder and loves to show off her Beach Volley Ball skills during our Group Beach and Board team building events.

our why?
The Tarka SUP Founders, Barrie & Tim, have both personally benefitted significantly from the mental and physical well-being benefits of Paddle Boarding and are passionate about helping others to benefit too.
Paddle Boarding is a great way to get on the water which is good for mind, body and soul, to connect with nature, to clear your mind and to get fit mentally and physically, which is why Paddle Boarding remains one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

Unfortunately, however, many people are being lured by cheap boards and are entering the water with little or no knowledge, which sadly has contributed to bad outcomes. We want to help people by providing quality equipment, expert knowledge and a safe and fun way to get into the sport we love.

LOCATION
Tarka SUP is technically homeless this year, but is able to operate as a mobile business, mainly opposite the beach in Instow, North Devon.
​
It is tidal, as such we typically operate 2-3 hrs around the high tide, weather permitting.
​

Instow Beach
Parking is either at the main village carpark opposide side of the Quay or at the Sandhills carpark at the Sand Dune / Cricket Club end of the village .
We currently do not have changing facilities, but there are Public Toilets opposite the entrance to the Sandhills carpark and at the main vilalge carpark (fees apply)
